What would YOU have done?

After reading some of the comments on standing in line, I couldn't help but wonder what you would have done if faced with a similar circumstance. Would you have walked away at the first sign of a long line*? Would you have said something to the obnoxious lady? Would you have accidentally trampled on her toes? What would YOU have done?

* "Line" is queue for my British readers.

Saf, I have been visiting this blog since it first began. I haven't commented regularly but I like reading your blog. This time I will be first to comment. I would be screaming AND kicking!!! How did you manage to bottle up your feelings? You have to give me some advise...

my friend omar was in a similar situation and he straight up told the woman when she tried to sneak back in, "I'm sorry, but you can't use your kid as a line-jumper," and then he started to blah blah blah about how people are teaching bad morals to their kids these days.

Salam its me madam anonymous (lol u made me laugh) and my name is zinnia.
i would let the woman go ahead if i was holding place for her because i know if i didn't she would torment me at night when im lying there looking up the ceiling and i will feel the guilt wash over me and i will think i am such a cow and therefore in the long term she will win by ruining my menatl health. Trust me its better this way, but if your'e not a wimp i advise you to stand firm unlike me

I think in general the way to handle these kinds of situations is to realize why one is angry. If one is angry because the other person has wronged Allah, then action should be taken and words spoken. But if one is just angry because the other person has wronged oneself, then maybe it's good for the nafs to just let the other person have his/her way and to know that Allah rewards those who have patience and display anger only for His sake. Interesting discussion. Wassalaam.

I think what I would do in a situation like that is agree to hold the person's place in line. Then I'd wait until the line got really long behind me, and I'd leave. I'd mail the letter another time.
